B. Summary of Memoir
History is most often written by the winners, the ones who arent defeated. This gives favoritism towards those who win, and it seems people forget the people who lost, the ones who suffered not only loses but besides humiliation. The memoir The Forgotten Soldier tells a story of a soldier, which in many points of view, was fighting on the wrong side. Guy Sajer is a Nazi soldier in earthly concern struggle Two, half- German and half- French, one of many who fought for Hitler and the inspirational New World Order. Guy starts out as driver and guard of supplies for those at the front. His first experience of hardships as a soldier is when he gets an understanding of Russian winters. Bone chilling temperatures of forty under zero, guard duty and other simple tasks asked of him become a struggle. Along with horrible conditions, low food supplies and constant travail towards the front lines, Guy managed to make a few friends in these dismal conditions. Hals, his closest friend, soon volunteers for the Gross Deutschland division. Shortly later on volunteering for this division, another huge loss for the Germans at Stalingrad pushes the Germans back, and supplies become dismantle harder to come by.
Guys life goes from fighting for the obtain Land to struggling to carry on. Realizing that to save his humane land of mind and to feel right, he decides to desert the German the States and go back home. A few weeks later, he joins the French Army and serves for ten months until the War is finally over. This memoir is closely struggling to maintain humanity, comradeship, fighting to survive and working for something you recall in.
