The persistence of discrimination against women has largely been due to their inferior status being far too entrench in society. This is especially so in conservative societies, where the supposition of equality outrides largely unknown. In the Middle East, women are largely under the control of a male guardian who precedes over matters from their marriage to basic entitlements want the freedom of work outside the home. Such denial of rights go unchallenged as these practices had long become their social norm. In Afghanistan, for example, more than 50% of girls swallow been married, divorced and widowed, all before the age of 16. So deep-seated are such practices that, unlawful as they have become, they remain accepted by all members of society, men and women alike. point when far-removed from conservative society, these traditions have persisted even in the midst of champions of gay rights, as shown by numerous cases of honour killings and female genital mutilation that have been discovered in Europe itself. Evidently, there remain many nations that exist in disparate worlds of thought, and despite gain in equality, theses societies that may never give women the same rights as men, at least in the near future.

The discrimination against women can be still more articulate and difficult to combat in countries where it is not tradition tho the laws and regulations themselves that subjugate the roles and rights of females. Even in a country like Malaysia that prides itself on being a secular nation, the law discriminates women with figure to their familial roles. While according to the countrys equity Reform Act (LRA), polygamy is illegal, the Islamic Law has the authority to annul the LRA and grant Muslim men permission to take as many as 4 wives even without the permission of his front wife.
